What Will You Need When There Is No Electricity Available?
What if the power goes down for good? Are you prepared if that happens? We always hope it does not occur, but if it does, you have an RV ready to go to find a place where you can generate your own power, or live without, using nature to sustain life, along with peace and quiet away from it all.
What should you have in case of a power outage? The Zendo website came up with 10 items to get you through days when electricity might not be available. These are items you may want to keep with your RV, in the garage, or in a storage unit in case you absolutely need them.
When the power goes out, it is always good to have a backup energy source. You want to invest in a portable generator or power station. While most generators run on gasoline, a power station is a more sustainable option, as it runs on batteries.
Without any power from the grid, fixing items may be a chore. It is always good to have a comprehensive tool kit. You can have a complete set of wrenches, sockets, and other manually operated tools, along with battery or rechargeable cordless tools.
It is always smart to have a fuel storage system. The most common one is the five-gallon “jerry can,” which is great for fueling your generator or RV.
If you are far from any electrical system, consider a solar charging setup. It uses sunlight to store energy for use. Some of these are actually portable or could be mounted on your RV.
When you get stuck somewhere, make sure you have some heavy-duty recovery gear handy. A winch is the best thing to have when you are way beyond the grid. If something goes wrong with your RV or tow vehicle, some diagnostic and repair equipment would help to get you back up and running.
Your RV needs to be protected, which means installing a vehicle security and/or anti-theft device. That way, you can be assured that no one can get into your RV, truck, or trailer when you are near or far from home.
There are plenty of places where your phone might not get a signal. You may want to have some maps and navigation tools – such as a GPS device – available in case you find yourself lost in unfamiliar territory. Portable radios are great for communicating with each other if you find yourselves separated.
In your RV, truck, or trailer, it is always good to pack an emergency safety kit. You can purchase one that is already assembled, with the essentials you need, when you are lost or stranded. The same goes for survival supplies you may want on hand when help takes longer to reach you.
