Jayco Grehawk XL

The good news is that there is an almost endless array of RVs on sale, ranging from small and basic to large and luxurious, but the bad news is that the huge number of options makes it challenging to determine which one is best for you and your needs. Class C motorhomes are a good option for many people, offering more interior space than vans without the maneuverability challenges that come with larger models. Here’s a quick overview of Class C RVs.

Class C RVs are built on truck or van platforms; most retain the cab from the base vehicle. Many feature the familiar over-cab sleeping space, and most offer additional seatbelts that increase their capacity. Because they are closely related to many modern mainstream vehicle models, some Class C RVs are available with optional upgrades, such as diesel engines and additional towing capacity.

Class C models are among the most popular RVs on the road, with up to seven percent of all RVs falling into the segment. They’re popular because they offer plenty of interior space with kitchens, bathrooms, and sleeping areas, and they feature larger water and sewer tanks to accommodate the extra people.

The size is good for beginner RVers because it makes Class C motorhomes much easier to drive and park. It also gives the RVs the ability to camp almost anywhere, especially for models equipped with solar and power features. Their size makes Class C RVs practical as regular vehicle replacements for some people, allowing them to be used for trips to kids’ sports games and other destinations where having a house on wheels is a big plus.

Many people find Class C RVs easier to drive than their larger counterparts because of their close relation to regular vehicle models. They offer a familiar interior layout and have much friendlier manners on the road, behaving more like a loaded pickup truck. At the same time, many models have strong towing numbers that reach 20,000 pounds in some cases. That said, towing a vehicle or trailer adds a significant level of complexity to the driving experience, so it’s a good idea to make sure you’re ready for the challenge.
